Stop IPTV Buffering: The Network Fixes That Actually Work
The short answer
Around 70% of IPTV buffering is caused by the local network, not the provider. Connect the streaming device by ethernet, use the 5GHz band if you cannot, restart the router, and raise the app's buffer size. If it buffers at 8pm but not at 11am, the problem is your network or your ISP — not the server.

Fix the connection

Run an ethernet cable
If you can reach the router, do this first. It removes interference, jitter and packet loss in one step and fixes most buffering outright. Firesticks need Amazon's ethernet adapter; most Android boxes have a port already.

If ethernet is impossible, use powerline adapters
They send network traffic over your mains wiring. Not as good as a direct cable, comfortably better than weak Wi-Fi.

Force the 5GHz band
2.4GHz is congested and slow but travels further; 5GHz is much faster over shorter distances. Connect the streaming device explicitly to the 5GHz network name rather than letting the router choose.

Move the router, or the device
Walls, mirrors, foil-backed insulation and other electronics all degrade Wi-Fi. Line of sight to the router makes a measurable difference.

Restart the router properly
Power off for thirty seconds, not just a quick reboot. Routers accumulate state and genuinely benefit from this.
Tune the app
- Increase the buffer size — TiviMate: Settings → Playback → Buffer size. A larger buffer means a slightly longer start delay and far fewer interruptions
- Switch decoder — try hardware, then hardware+, then software. One usually suits your device better
- Clear the app cache, particularly after the app has been running for weeks
- Turn off background EPG updates during live sport so the guide is not downloading mid-match
- Reduce stream quality on a weak connection — a stable 1080p beats a stuttering 4K every time
Tune the network
- Enable QoS on the router and prioritise the streaming device by MAC address
- Check nothing else is saturating the line — cloud backups, game downloads and 4K on another TV all compete
- Change the Wi-Fi channel if you live in a flat; 2.4GHz in particular is often heavily contended
- Update the router firmware, which is neglected in most homes
- Consider a mesh system if the television is far from the router and cabling is impossible
Console and PC game updates are a common hidden cause — a 100GB download in another room will ruin a match, and it happens silently.
When it genuinely is us
Servers do have bad nights, particularly during simultaneous Champions League kick-offs. If you have established it is not your network — it fails on mobile data, on a second device, on more than one channel — tell us and we will check the server and move you to a different one if needed.
